A look inside
Neon lines on black
The game draws everything every frame, with a phosphor glow: the ship, the ruined city, the sea, the moon, the hive. The camera sits behind and above the ship, and the road curves as if seen from a plane.
One finger and a burst
Drag to move the ship; a tap on FIRE fires a burst and holding it fires nonstop. Seven weapons swapped by picking up the icon, four power levels and bombs that wipe the bullets.
Bosses in pieces
A TARGET bar fills as you approach the boss and becomes its health bar. Turrets, pods and spines break separately; when nothing is left outside, the core opens up and changes its pattern.
The story over the radio
NOA, the pilot; VEGA, the doctor who runs the project; CONTROL, the tower. They talk in boxes that never pause the game, and what they say depends on how you play: the tower only confirms a transfer if you lost a ship.
Between levels
When you press NEXT the ship flies on alone, the screen fades to black and a line-drawn frame appears with one thought from the pilot. The cutscenes change with the story: in the second act the transmission breaks up; in the third, the drawing copies itself.
The score card and the records
At the end: time, kills, accuracy, bombs, ships lost, bonus and rank. Story mode with all twelve levels in a row and Arcade mode for points, level by level, with a record per level. In Spanish, English and Japanese.
